A jealous housewife who could not take another woman having affairs with her husband, has bathed her rival with acid and committed suicide by jumping into the River Niger.
The sad incident happened in Oko-Ogbele community in Asaba, Delta State, while the cheating husband has been arrested by the police.
According to the reports carried by Leadership Newspaper, the deceased woman identified as Rosemary, had complained several times to her husband about the woman's frequent visits to their house and had also warned the woman to desist from running after her husband or she would be thought a bitter lesson but the rival would not heed the warnings.
To make matters worse, Rosemary's husband, a fisherman and a native of Bomadi local government, an Ijaw community in Delta State, had threatened her that he would get a second wife if she did not stop harassing his woman friend.
When she could not take the flagrant infidelity again, it was gathered that the very jealous Rosemary decided to take the fight to the woman.
On the day of the incident, she reportedly ambushed her rival and poured substance suspected to be acid on her face and promptly jumped into the river.
The Delta State Police Command’s spokesman, DSP Celestina Kalu, confirmed that the husband of the woman who had jumped into the river, was arrested, disclosing that the incident took place on Monday evening at Oko-Ogbele Community by the River Niger bank.
The police statement adds that the corpse of the woman was yet to be found in the water while the acid victim was rushed to a private hospital in Asaba where she is currently receiving treatment.
