NEW DELHI -- Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Dec. 17 pledged to go after terrorist groups following an attack the previous day agai...
Sharif declared that there are no distinctions between "good and bad Taliban." The government has "resolved to continue the war against terrorism until the last terrorist is eliminated," he said in a meeting with lawmakers from all parties.
The prime minister said a national action plan against terror was to be created within a week, adding that terrorism cases will be excluded from Pakistan's moratorium on the death penalty.
The government's tougher stance may fuel the conflict with extremist groups and further undermine national security. Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan, or the TTP, which has claimed responsibility for the school massacre, vowed the same day to carry out more attacks. "The government and military must understand once and for all that we are at war," warned Daily Times, an English-language newspaper.
